Stanley "Tookie" Williams was turned down an appeal by the California State Supreme Court yesterday. Today, he was turned down an appeal by The Federal Appeals Court. Not long after that was reported, the report everyone had been anxiously waiting for was handed down:
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has denied Clemency for Stanley "Tookie" Williams. Williams was convicted in 1981 of 4 murders he convicted in 1979. Stan Williams had maintained his innocence.
Two days ago, Williams attorney's asked Gov. Schwazenegger for Clemency in a last ditch effort to spare his life, which was denied at about 12:30 pm Monday.
Governor Schwarzenegger said in a statement that he couldnot find "significant evidence" to overturn the decision the juy had made 24 years ago.
Williams will die at 12:01 am Tuesday, December 13, 2005, less than 11 1/2 hours from now.
This IS a political OPINION blog, but I won't post my opinion on this issue until tomorrow, not out of respect for Williams but out of respect for the families.
