I hope you're source is wrong, and it's hard for me to believe that President Bush said that. I know he's a very power-centric person, as any leader/CEO/president should be, but it's tough for me to imagine him saying that the Constitution is "just a... piece of paper."
Your source isn't exactly "neutral" in the political spectrum, either. That should be considered as well when determining the merit and accuracy of this story. The people that take this story at face-value are the same that would tell you "Fahrenheit 911" is the greatest "documentary" they've ever seen.
I certainly agree that no president should say anything like that. I would also say that liberals/democrats seem to have more of a historical bent toward constitutional revisionism and ignorance. So, without this becoming a playground shoving match, I would just say that this alleged story doesn't counteract or erase the past four decades of "constitutional relativism" from the left, even if you could prove to me that President Bush did say that.
Just because I blog comes from the left doesn't mean that it's false. Any site that lies about a story would be immediately discredited, even in the Liberal community.
However, I will continue to investigate until I find this story to be referred to by a large site.
I'll be most interested if you can get independent and objective confirmation of Bush's alleged profane comment about The Constitution.
I think all of us who blog must take responsibility for what we post, whether article -- original or excerpted -- or comment, to ascertain fact from fiction and so note the same in our wordsmithing. To do otherwise is intellectually dishonest and undermines credibility.
Having said that, op-ed is a horse of a different color and everyone is entitled to his or her opinion; however, stating or implying something is factual without proof or without reasonable certainty, is quite another thing.
